Approximately 150 local business and community leaders attended the event, which was held October 3, 2007, at Automation Alley Automation Alley is a technology business association located in Southeast Michigan, U.S.A., primarily in Oakland County. Since its founding in 1999, Automation Alley has expanded to encompass an eight county area that includes business, educational institutions, and government  in Troy, MI.

The half-day community service project, led by more than 35 Cbeyond volunteers, took place at Lighthouse PATH, a women's transitional housing center. During the service project, Cbeyond employees donated more than 100 hours making repairs to the facility, landscaping and removing debris in addition to planting trees, weeding and raking.

The Small Business Communications Make-Over Contest, co-sponsored by Cbeyond and Cisco, provided select Detroit-area small businesses with a year of Cbeyond's BeyondVoice[R] service, a bundle of local and long distance phone service and broadband Internet See broadband. , and a Cisco IP-based phone system. Contest winners, such as Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity, nonprofit ecumenical Christian organization that enables low-income people to own affordable, livable housing. Headquartered in Americus, Ga., it was founded in 1976 by businessman Millard Fuller and his wife.  in Oakland County, were selected based on their entrepreneurial spirit and their proposed use of the next generation technology.

"As a result of our market launch efforts, we have received an amazing response from the Detroit-area small business community," said Brooks Robinson, chief marketing officer at Cbeyond. "Detroit-area entrepreneurs now benefit from our productivity-enhancing applications designed specifically for small businesses."

The TAMYs are awarded by TAG Marketing, a society of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG). TAMY awards recognize Georgia-based companies that demonstrate significant and measurable accomplishments in technology marketing. This is the eighth year of the TAMY awards.
