Profitable Service Offerings

Cayman Systems, Inc., a global provider of broadband gateway solutions, today announced a joint business initiative with Elron Software. As the first step in the initiative to offer value added services, Cayman adds Elron's Internet Manager Firewall(TM) and IPSEC compliant VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  security software to its 3220 and 2E500 gateway product families, further strengthening the security capabilities already packed into the products.

With an "always on" Broadband connection See broadband and wireless broadband. , security is a critical issue because systems are left vulnerable to the threat of outside intrusion. Cayman has already countered these potential threats with NAT (Network Address Translation) An IETF standard that allows an organization to present itself to the Internet with far fewer IP addresses than there are nodes on its internal network.  (Network Address Translation), a part of all 3220 and 2E500 products. By assigning a single IP address to the broadband gateway--as opposed to each of the devices connected to it-- the Cayman Gateways provide a highly secure method of blocking attempts at identifying, and breaking into the PCs and other network devices in the LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  (Local Area Network).

However, security comes at many levels and, by adding firewall software, small business and home users will be assured of the highest levels of security against unauthorized access and malicious acts from the Internet. Cayman now provides an even greater level of security to an already secure family of gateways without losing the ease of configuration and management associated with all Cayman products.

"Developing interoperable security solutions is paramount at Elron," said Larry Derany VP Marketing and Engineering at Elron Software. "This important partnership provides a new venue to deploy our software, while providing increasing levels of security to Cayman's growing family of gateways and consumers."

Cayman will offer two versions of its scalable and high-performance Firewall. A simple, easy-to-operate version of Elron's award-winning IM Firewall will be added to the base 3220 and 2E500 gateway products at no extra cost. The Cayman 1100 Firewall provides consumers with an easy-to-deploy yet powerful firewall when they acquire a Cayman Broadband Gateway. In addition, for those consumers who require an added level of security and customization, Cayman will offer the Cayman 1100 Advanced Firewall as a value add product. This will allow security-conscious consumers to create specific firewall configurations by using the intuitive and automated Cayman 1100 Firewall Manager.

Cayman will also provide the Cayman 1200 VPN Manager for those home and small business consumers that seek to save money on remote access costs and make sensitive communications more secure over the Internet. Based on Elron's IPSEC compliant VPN software, this solution enables consumers and enterprise organizations to implement policy-based management See policy management.  practices, reinforce a published policy for employee Internet usage, and align Internet usage with business priorities. Ideal for use by telecommuters, or those working remotely with large enterprise corporations, this technology makes data secure and virtually transparent over the Internet. The Elron alliance is the first in a series of strategic business initiatives through which Cayman will deliver value add products provided by other industry leading software developers with its own broadband offerings. Cayman has established a number of strategic partnerships in an effort to continue to provide an expanded range of value add products to their family of gateways. In doing so, Cayman enhances the consumer's ability to choose the components they need to better experience true Digital FreedomTM with DSL DSL

"By packaging value added services with our gateways, Cayman can offer service providers new revenue opportunities along with the ease of management and installation that will help to cut costs, making deployment to the mass market more feasible."

Both the Cayman 1100 Advanced Firewall and the Cayman 1200 VPN Manager products will be offered as a part of the "added" security to Cayman's gateways, and will be available through service providers as a value-added option along with Cayman broadband gateways. The complete Firewall and VPN offerings will be available as part of Release 5.7, available October 30. Release 5.7 will be downloadable from the Cayman Web Site. The Cayman 1100 Advanced Firewall and Cayman 1200 VPN Manager will be enabled via a software key also purchased via Service Providers or directly from Cayman.
