Cathy Slater Named Vice President, Weyerhaeuser Grande Prairie/Grande Cache Operations.


FEDERAL WAY, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1998--Weyerhaeuser Company today announced that Cathy Slater has been named vice president of Weyerhaeuser Canada's Grande Prairie/Grande Cache operations effective in January.

In her new role, Slater will oversee the company's pulp, lumber, and timberland operations in the Grande Prairie/Grande Cache, Alberta area.

Slater succeeds Rick Maksymetz, who assumed leadership of the company's Dryden, Ontario Dryden (2006 population 8,195) is the second largest city in the Kenora District of Northwestern Ontario, Canada located on Wabigoon Lake. It is currently the smallest community in the province of Ontario designated as a city.  operations earlier this year.

Slater, a chemical engineer, brings a solid portfolio of technical, operational and management experience in the pulp and paper industry The global pulp and paper industry is dominated by North American (United States, Canada), northern European (Finland, Sweden) and East Asian countries (such as Japan). In her previous position she was assistant mill manager at Weyerhaeuser's Flint River Pulp mill, a 335,000 ton per year facility located in Oglethorpe, Georgia Oglethorpe is a city in Macon County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,200 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Macon CountyGR6. It was named for Georgia's founder, James Oglethorpe. . In this role, she successfully provided leadership for key business results, including safety, production and manufacturing cost. In addition, she helped implement the company's capital effectiveness program across the Pulp business. Prior to her current assignment, she led product development, technical management and work systems development during her 13-year career in the industry.

A process is under way to determine how Slater's previous responsibilities will be filled at Flint River.
