Catholic schools. One Catholic weekly newspaper occasionally has an insert concerning Catholic education. The gist of it is to lead readers to conclude that all is well with Catholic education, with some graduates highlighted as examples of the good fruit connected with Catholic education. It is helpful, indeed necessary, to ask whether Catholic Prime Ministers Trudeau, Clark, Turner, Mulroney, Chretien, and Martin are products of Catholic education. Was their Catholic education a factor contributing to their being pro-abortion? Jean Augustine Jean Augustine, PC, B.A., M.A., LL.D (born September 9, 1937 in St. George's, Grenada) is a former Canadian politician. From 1993 to 2005 Augustine was a Liberal member of the Canadian House of Commons, representing the riding of Etobicoke—Lakeshore. , currently in the Liberal cabinet, is pro-abortion; she had been a principal in a Catholic school. Was she appointed as principal because she is a visible minority? Was it known by those who hired her that she takes a position on a fundamental life issue that is seriously at odds with the Magisterium mag·is·te·ri·um n. Roman Catholic Church The authority to teach religious doctrine. [Latin, the office of a teacher or other person in authority, from magister, master; see ? Was her interview merely a formality, or was there a genuine effort to find out what she believes on moral matters? Who takes responsibility for hiring someone that is in a scandalous situation? I am told about a head of a religion department who has a feminist agenda. The person promotes the idea of women priests List of women priests-In many denominations the ordination of women is a new phenomenon. This is true enough that those so ordained gain some attention. This list deals with that and will include female Bishops as well, but due to historical differences deaconesses will not be . Do we really want our students to think that this might happen, when Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus PP. II, Italian: Giovanni Paolo II, Polish: Jan Paweł II) born Karol Józef Wojtyła said that he did not have the authority to ordain ORDAIN. To ordain is to make an ordinance, to enact a law. 2. In the constitution of the United States, the preamble. declares that the people "do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America. women? Again, the question needs to be asked--why was a feminist hired as a religion teacher? It appears once again that negligence shows itself in the hiring of persons who promote goals contrary to the teachings of the Church. While the Catholic school system wants the public to have a favourable view of Catholic education, we need to ask if this is justified. One notes that a number of Catholic parents are opting out of the regular school systems because they are deeply disappointed with sex education. (Such as children being shown how to use condoms.) They are tired of trying to work within the system in the hope that things might change. Important anecdotes can be presented that reflect poorly on Catholic schools. At one school the police were called to remove people involved in the Show the Truth Tour. How is the school system promoting a culture of life when it isn't receptive to the Show the Truth Tour? At another school the lay chaplain has literature from Planned Parenthood Planned Parenthood A service mark used for an organization that provides family planning services. to help a student procure an abortion. How is this to be explained? A religion department head, after teaching Buddhism in the World Religions course, had the students go to the chapel to pray to a picture of Buddha. Surely, this confuses students terribly, thinking Buddha somehow answers prayers, or is divine. In another disturbing situation a priest was refused entrance to the school; even though he pointed out that the bishop had sent him, this did not sway the principal. The above stories are part of the overall picture of present-day Catholic education. Lofty goals are established for graduates of Catholic schools. One wonders how achievable these goals are. It would be a big step forward if the students knew what they must do to get to heaven and recognized that the consecrated con·se·crate tr.v. con·se·crat·ed, con·se·crat·ing, con·se·crates 1.
