[Middle English, from Latin err , usually thought of as a Catholic country, but a recent large survey carried out on behalf of the French Catholic daily La Croix La Croix is a French, Roman Catholic, daily newspaper. It is published in Paris and distributed throughout the country, with a circulation of just under 100,000. It is neither explicitly liberal or conservative on major political issues, but follows the Church's position , has discovered some dismal dis·mal adj. 1. Out of a population of 60 million people, two-thirds (or 40 million) describe themselves as Catholic, but of these only 2.8 million attend Mass regularly (at least once a month). In the English-speaking world these 7.2 million people are referred to as "cultural Catholics;" that is, they do not necessarily accept all the teachings of the Church and they may only go to Mass at Christmas and Easter, but their cultural ties to the Catholic Church dictate that they refer to themselves as "practising Catholics." |
