Refusing to answer a draft call is a federal felony, but when a person's religious beliefs are long-standing and consistent (as with the Quakers) then the objection to service is excused. Conscientious objectors may be required to perform some non-violent work like driving an ambulance. already in the military and work to remind military chaplains of their obligation to inform Catholics and others in the armed forces about their rights to conscientious objection. In Catholic high schools, colleges, and universities, the CPF will challenge the free access enjoyed by military recruiters and address issues arising from the participation in Reserve Officers Training Corps programs. It will also ask young Catholics to consider the profound moral issues that military service entails and will work to inform all young Catholics about laws on draft registration and the process by which a civilian may obtain recognition as a conscientious objector.
