That is utterly ridiculous and untrue. I've read many studies that prove that pedophiles are rarely, if ever, homosexuals. The Catholic Church is using homosexuality as a scapegoat. The author of the article was right when she referred to this as a witch hunt. Early career compared it to the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy; this is a bad comparison. The Catholic Church is asking and demanding that people tell. If people want to dedicate their lives to the church and to serving their God, who is the church--who, even, is the pope--to stand in their way? If God loves all people, shouldn't the pope? There are many Catholic orders that have broken with Rome because of its discriminatory practices and selective disregard for the teachings of Jesus. Among those orders, besides the Augustinians, is the order I belong to, the Servant Franciscans of the Immaculata, part of the Apostolic Society of Catholic Faith Communities. Credit should also be given to Cardinal Roger Mahony of the Los Angeles archdiocese (Roman) for founding in 1986 a ministry to the LGBT community, which today has chapters in as many as 20 parishes in the diocese.
