Catholic civil rights league kept busy. (Canada).Toronto--At its annual meeting, Thomas Langan, president of the Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL CCRL Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory CCRL Catholic Civil Rights League CCRL California Center for Regional Leadership CCRL College and Career Reference Library CCRL Computer Chess Rating Lists ), reported that the league was deeply involved in defending Catholic interests. Phil Horgan, a Toronto lawyer, told the small group that CCRL is an "intervenor" in three same-sex marriage Noun 1. same-sex marriage - two people of the same sex who live together as a family; "the legal status of same-sex marriages has been hotly debated" couple, twosome, duet, duo - a pair who associate with one another; "the engaged couple"; "an inseparable court cases, one each in B.C., Ontario and Quebec, defending traditional marriage norms. Needless to say, this costs fistfuls of money. It is also an intervenor in the Brockie case in Ontario, where freedom of religion and thought is threatened once again by aggressive "gays," who demand that under the Ontario Human Rights Act everybody must accept their "right" to absolute equality in all respects (see C.I., Oct. 2001, p. 27 "Printer fined for refusing homosexual job"). This case was heard on December 5, 6 and 7. Another case is coming up in Manitoba where a mother claims damages from a physician for not advising an abortion. Professor Langan was optimistic about the future, though aware of the need for much wider support from the Catholic community across Canada Across Canada was an afternoon program that formerly aired on The Weather Network. Among the good news was the announcement that a francophone branch was to be established in Montreal in early December 2001, and that support is being solicited also in the Maritimes. Measures are underway to strengthen the Ottawa and Vancouver locals. The Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. McGivney. are asking local councils to become institutional members and the League has acquired a permanent new national office in Toronto in a respectable location. The League is now working with a network of other like-minded organizations and issues a regular newsletter.
