MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 1997--Catherines Stores Corp. (NASDAQ:CATH) reported Thursday that total sales for the four-week period ended May 31, 1997 increased to $24.80 million from $24.75 million in 1996, or 0.2 percent.

Year to date total sales increased to $95.76 million from $95.22 million in 1996. On a comparable stores' basis sales decreased 0.9 percent for the month and 1.6 percent year to date.
