Cathedral Dean to step down.


THE Dean of Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral is to step down due to illness.

Monsignor Peter Cookson will be replaced by the financial secretary for the Archdiocese of Liverpool The Archdiocese of Liverpool is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Liverpool, England headed by the Archbishop of Liverpool. The archdiocese is part of the metropolitan Province of Liverpool, which covers Northern England, like its counterpart the Province of York in the Church , Father Anthony O'Brien.

Monsignor Cookson has been suffering from ill health for some time and will soon undergo major surgery.

In the Metropolitan Cathedral newsletter, he told his congregation: "As soon as it became clear what a lengthy and uncertain process my illness is likely to be, I felt it unfair and unreasonable to expect the cathedral team and community to struggle on indefinitely without a pastor at the helm."
