LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 1997--

Online marketing program saves bidders up to 55 percent off fares

Cathay Pacific Cathay Pacific Airways Limited (HKSE: 0293 ) is an airline based in Hong Kong, operating scheduled passenger and cargo services to over 104 destinations worldwide. Members of the carrier's CyberTraveler program placed bids for a minimum of 387 seats (the equivalent of a Boeing 747-400's capacity) for Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov.  getaways from either New York New York, state, United States

Cathay Pacific received 14,760 bids, and the 525 successful bidders saved as much as 55 percent off published fares in all three classes (First, Business and Economy) for Hong Kong travel from New York or Los Angeles. A majority of the bidders involved their travel agents in the process, which Cathay Pacific strongly encouraged, as agents were entitled to commission on their clients' successful bids.
