Cathay Pacific Airways Is Launch Customer for New Boeing Aircraft; First Boeing 777-300 Rolls Out in Seattle.

See Small airways.  announced that the first Boeing 777-300 rolled out of the factory in a special ceremony Monday afternoon in Everett, Wash.

Cathay Pacific Cathay Pacific Airways Limited (HKSE: 0293 ) is an airline based in Hong Kong, operating scheduled passenger and cargo services to over 104 destinations worldwide. It is the flag carrier of Hong Kong with its main base at the Hong Kong International Airport. [1].  is the launch customer for this new, state-of-the- art aircraft, which will be delivered between May 1998 and October 1999. The airline already operates four Boeing 777-200s and has ordered seven of the new 777-300s, with an option to purchase up to 10 more by 2003.

The twin-engined 777-300 is the world's longest commercial aircraft. Cathay Pacific's fleet of 777-300s will seat 367 passengers in two classes: 80 seats in Business Class and 287 in Economy, all fitted with personal televisions.

Cathay Pacific will operate the 777-300 on regional routes between Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov.  and Bangkok, Seoul, Taipei and several Japanese destinations.

``We have chosen the Boeing 777-300 because its capacity, operating economics and range fill an important niche in our fleet requirements,'' said Peter Sutch, chairman of Cathay Pacific, at the rollout ceremony in Washington Monday.

``This aircraft will help Cathay Pacific grow by giving us the ability to add greater capacity to high-frequency regional routes when Hong Kong's new airport opens at Chek Lap Kok Chek Lap Kok is an island in the western waters of Hong Kong, China. Chek Lap Kok was one of the two islands (the other being Lam Chau) merged together via land reclamation techniques into to the 12.48 km² platform for the current Hong Kong International Airport.  in 1998,'' Sutch added. -0-
