Broadband digital communications connection that operates over standard copper telephone wires. It requires a DSL modem, which splits transmissions into two frequency bands: the lower frequencies for voice (ordinary
 silicon technology, which is used in the company's CNX-5 Broadband DSL System. The CNX-5 is the only solution on the market that broadband-enables Lucent SLC-5(R) digital loop carriers.

Eight companies were selected for their innovative, cost-saving approach in providing network solutions for service providers. Their products also represent brand new approaches to solving problems.

To date, six U.S. carriers, including one major RBOC (Regional Bell Operating Company) The Bell telephone companies that were spun off of AT&T by court order in 1984 (the Divestiture). Also known as the "Baby Bells," the initial seven RBOCs were Nynex, Bell Atlantic, BellSouth, Southwestern Bell, US West, , already are deploying Catena's CNX-5 Broadband DSL System, and two U.S. carriers have begun lab evaluations of Catena's CN1000 Broadband Loop Carrier.
