Catch up... on fight to Save Our Reservoirs.WESTERN Power Distribution has fought a relentless campaign to get its bulldozers on site, with the issue rumbling on for nearly a decade. Here is a brief history: 1971 The ownership of the reservoir is taken over by the Welsh Water Authority. 1989: This is privatised, forming Welsh Water, and, later, the Hyder group. 2000: Hyder is acquired by American company Western Power Distribution (WPD WPD WordPerfect Document (file extension) WPD Western Power Distribution (UK) WPD Western Police District (local police authority in Manila, Philippines) ). 2001: WPD sells its water assets to Glas Cymru. December, 2006: The power company takes its fight to the High Court, challenging the way the reservoir was made a SSSI, but the decision is upheld. August, 2007: National Assembly rejects WPD's first appeal and says development would cause "serious harm". May 2008: National Assembly inspector Richard Poppleton starts a public inquiry into the second application at County Hall. April 2009: Environment Minister Jane Davidson rejects the Mr Poppleton's recommendation that outline planning permission be granted and dismisses Western Power Distribution's second appeal.. |
