Catch up with Bowhunter TV: let Season Five of Bowhunter TV get you fired up for your own bowhunting adventures.[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE that Bowhunter TV's fifth season is well underway on Sportsman Channel, Fox Sports Net Midwest, Fox Sports Net South, WILD TV in Canada, and Pursuit Network on DIRECTV (satellite), and that our TV crew is ready to spend its sixth season in the field. When this storied print brand delved into the TV world back in 2004, as a team we had plenty of hunting and video expertise but no television production experience. We'd sponsored and worked with other shows, but we still had quite a learning experience ahead of us. Thankfully, we've gone a long way fast, gifted with hard-headed editors, talented cameramen, and, of course, a host of stalwart sponsors who have always understood our goal to present bowhunting in the very best light. But it is folks like you who are the most important part of this equation, those many thousands who share our passion for the most compelling outdoor pursuit we can imagine, folks who turn pages, click on, and tune-in every week. For that, we cannot thank you enough. If you haven't had the chance to see what's happening on this season of Bowhunter TV, we hope you'll join us this week at 8:30 p.m. on Sportsman Channel's Full Draw Friday Night! Show 10: Colorado Whitetails (TV week of Aug. 31) When people think of bowhunting in Colorado, thoughts usually turn to rutting bull elk. But, as Editor Dwight Schuh proves in this episode, Colorado is also a fantastic whitetail destination. Fred Eichler, owner of Full Draw Outfitters, is Dwight's host for this action-packed episode, and while Fred knows more than a thing or two about whitetails, he can't control the warm weather that has the deer holed-up during the day for a good part of Dwight's hunt. Then a cold front passes through and the action really heats up. Randy Ulmer's "Dead On" column covers high/low arrow groups and "Tech Talk" examines easy scent-use. Show 11: Second Chance Buck/ Christmas Ham and Turkey (TV week of Sept. 7) In the first half of this show, Assistant Editor Brian Fortenbaugh takes us back to Wilsall, Montana, for a mid-November whitetail hunt with Keith Miller's Montana Whitetails, Inc. Brian is no stranger to Keith's operation in the Shields River Valley and the big bucks that live there. After missing a pointblank shot on a nice eight-point buck, Brian quickly reloads. In the second part of this episode, Contributor Lon Lauber travels from his home state of Washington to Texas with his sons for a mixed-bag bowhunt for wild hogs and Rio Grande turkeys. Lon is an experienced bowhunter whose sons are following well in dad's footsteps. Enjoy in the fun as Lon and his boys spend time together in a target-rich environment. Randy Ulmer's "Dead On" column examines release aids and "Tech Talk" shares insights on bowsights. Show 12: Seeking Sika/Rain Forest Blacktails (IV week of Sept. 14) Bowhunter Contributor Jeff Frey kicks off this two-part show with a trip to Maryland's Eastern Shore for wild, free-ranging Sika deer. These tiny animals, native to East Asia, are tough to bowhunt because they have lightning reflexes and are largely nocturnal. But that's also what makes them so much fun to hunt. In the second half, Videographer Larry D. Jones takes us to the other side of the country for an exciting do-it-yourself blacktail hunt on the Jones Family's home turf in Oregon. Randy Ulmer's "Dead On" covers paper tuning and "Tech Talk" shows you how to use ground blinds efficiently. Show 13: Texas Javelinas (TV week of Sept. 21) In this episode we head to the South Texas brush country for an exciting javelina hunt. Co-Host Mike Carney teams up with Videographer Larry D. Jones and Contributor Jeff Frey for a great off-season bowhunt with traditional gear. Hunting with Jared Peeples' Trinity Outdoors, the guys employ a variety of tactics to take, and miss, these challenging animals. Once you see these "little pigs" respond to a call, you'll want to schedule your own off-season adventure. Randy Ulmer's "Dead On" talks about pre-shot routines and "Tech Talk" looks at high-tech traditional tackle. Show 1: Georgia Hogs "Cutting the Pork" (TV-week of Sept. 28) The 2009 season of Bowhunter TV continues with an exciting off-season adventure for Co-Hosts Mike Carney and Equipment Editor Curt Wells as they journey to southern Georgia in search of wild hogs. A keen sense of smell and hearing, coupled with mediocre eyesight, makes hogs the perfect animal for spot-and-stalk bowhunting. Conditions are perfect and both Mike and Curt take some very big, and tasty, pigs while enjoying some true Southern hospitality. Randy Ulmer's "Dead On" column looks at small peeps and "Tech Talk" follows new fletching options. Show 2: Hurricane Whitetails (TV week of Oct. 5) In this episode, Bowhunter Contributor Jeff Frey and Nikon's Jon LaCorte meet up in Kentucky for an early September whitetail hunt at Hunt Master Lodge. At this time of year, the deer are still on their predictable summer travel patterns--if only the same could be said for the weather. Hurricane-driven winds and rains make the hunting tough but don't stop Jon from taking a terrific whitetail buck. Randy Ulmer's "Dead On" column teaches aiming techniques and in "Tech Talk" we look at selecting the right release aid. |
