Catch their eye!--Great audition looks!

Choosing what to wear to an audition is as nerve-wracking as the tryout! Have fun, but keep in mind that you are creating an impression from the moment you walk in the door. "How you approach the way you dress is how you are going to approach your work," says Tim Yeager, ballet master bal´let` mas´ter

n. 1. a man who trains ballet dancers.

Noun 1. ballet master - a man who directs and teaches and rehearses dancers for a ballet company
 for the Nashville Ballet.

When in doubt, "Neatness counts," says Yeager. Chitty Chit´ty

Lewis goes for clean, simple, and polished. "I wear a bright-colored top, black jazz pants, and a matching heel. It's a cleaner look that makes my legs look longer," says Lewis.

It's a good idea to research the company or show you are auditioning for. If you don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
what you'll be asked to do, be prepared. Take all your shoes and a couple of changes of clothes. You'll have a huge bag, but you'll be ready. If you show up and you're dressed absolutely wrong, don't get upset. Your dancing is what's most important. "When I auditioned for the Rockettes," says Lewis, "I was wearing a ballet-cut leotard. I didn't have heels. I had on dance sneakers sneakers

. It was terrible. But I got the job!"

If your audition is being filmed, dress for the camera. "Everything on TV and film magnifies," says Lewis. "Don't wear big jewelry. Wearing white washes you out. And shirts with a lot of texture may look funny." It's a good idea to stick to solid colors for any audition. You'll look put together and you won't risk breaking your line if you stay simple.

Showing up for an audition in the standard uniform of black leotard and tights isn't the only way to look responsible. "You can tell the difference between dancers just coming out of school and professionals looking for Looking for

a different job by the way they dress," says Yeager. "You can look professional without looking like you've just graduated from SAB."

It's a good idea to test new purchases in class before wearing them to an audition. You'll learn how the fabric behaves. Comfort is important. A leotard that's gorgeous but doesn't move well is distracting. No one wants to see you adjusting straps. Tugging at your clothes makes you seem self-conscious. If you're injured, don't wear a big ace bandage Ace bandage Ace wrap Orthopedics A proprietary elastic bandage used to ↓ swelling and protect contused joints; if placed too tightly, may ↓ circulation and cause pain and paresthesia  or brace unless it's really necessary. It makes auditors nervous! You can ward off your nerves by planning your outfit ahead of time. Make a list of what you need to take, and you'll be able to spend the night before your audition relaxing instead of stressing. Just remember, you're auditioning them, too. So have fun and treat it like any other class. (A class where you look fabulous!)
