As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,560. It is the county seat of Catawba CountyGR6. . The TelePath tel·e·path

(TM) solution will use SpeechWorks(R) speech recognition software to enable callers to receive and update information on properties listed among the more than 4,000 street names in Catawba County.

The Catawba County speech-enabled application will automate the arduous Building Inspection and Permitting process, allowing citizens and building contractors to simply call and say the property address to schedule inspections, cancel inspections and check on the status of inspections and building permit applications. For example, a property owner who wants to build an addition could simply call and apply for a building permit over the phone using a speech-activated solution rather than apply in person. In addition, TelePath will enable building inspectors to file inspection reports from the field using speech recognition and a mobile phone, rather than returning to their office and filing a written inspection report.

"We are looking forward to implementation of the TelePath touchtone and speech recognition solution for Catawba County. Once TelePath is installed it will make the business processes for the County much more efficient and provide a higher level of service to our customers," said Valerie Jones, Information Technology Project Manager for Catawba County. "Catawba County went through an extensive search to find an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) An automated telephone information system that speaks to the caller with a combination of fixed voice menus and data extracted from databases in real time.  vendor and we chose FSI due to their expertise in the government marketplace and the advanced technologies such as speech recognition provided by TelePath and SpeechWorks."

"One of the many benefits of this speech application is that it works extremely well in wireless environments," said Mike AtLee, director of SpeechWorks' Government Systems Group. "As a result, inspections can be updated in real-time allowing developers and property owners to quickly receive important information on their property."

"SpeechWorks played a very large role in FSI being selected as the IVR vendor at Catawba County," said Bruce Frank, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "The Catawba County Building Inspection and Permitting Application demanded a strong speech recognition solution and SpeechWorks more than fit the bill. SpeechWorks has become an integral part of the TelePath solution and is offered as a standard feature of TelePath."
