Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 5, 2000

Catapult Communications today announced that it would auction off the 3G (third generation digital cellular) Australian bandwidth licenses that it purchased in 1998.

In 1998, Catapult purchased 3G bandwidth licenses in the Australian states of Queensland and South Australia South Australia, state (1991 pop. 1,236,623), 380,070 sq mi (984,381 sq km), S central Australia. "We planned to resell this bandwidth to our customers to test 3G equipment in an actual use environment," said Richard A. Karp, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Catapult. "However, recent auctions of similar bandwidth have suggested that 3G licenses have considerably increased in value. As a result, we determined that it is now in our shareholders best interest to auction off those licenses."

Maurie Dobbin, managing director of TeleResources, added, "We anticipate considerable interest in these licenses. This is the only 3G 1800 mhz bandwidth in regional areas not held by Telstra, the dominant telecom carrier in Australia. By obtaining additional bandwidth, 3G operators can avoid paying high roaming fees in areas that contain some of Australia's leading tourist destinations."

The auction will be held by public outcry. Any revenues generated from this sale are expected to be realized by Catapult in its fiscal year beginning October 1, 2000, once the licenses are officially transferred.

Potential bidders interested in learning more about Catapult's auction should contact TeleResources at +61(0)2-9975-2230 or email teleres@teleres.com.au.
