The Henry Street Settlement, a longtime hub of New York's Lower East Side artistic community, has appointed Daniel Catanach the new director of dance for its Abrons Art Center. Catanach replaces Louis Johnson Louis Johnson may refer to:

Settlement has drawn dance audiences, students, and performers to the underprivileged neighborhoods of lower Manhattan--a tradition Catanach hopes to continue.

Catanach, a choreographer and teacher, has been working on dance and theater projects at Abrons Arts Center for the past ten years. Many of his programs, such as Urban Youth Theater, have provided early dance training for inner-city children, some of whom have graduated into his professional company, Urban Ballet Theater. As director of dance, Catanach plans to bring his classes and company under one roof.

Catanach is currently putting the finishing touches on Trouble, which will premiere on October 24 at the Abrons Center. Choreographed to the music of Claude Chalhoub, the new ballet blends jazz and hip-hop with neoclassical ne·o·clas·si·cism also Ne·o·clas·si·cism
