This research investigates the anthraquinone anthraquinone /an·thra·quin·one/ (an?thrah-kwin´on)
1. the 9,10 quinone derivative of anthracene, used in dye manufacture.

2. any of the derivatives of this compound, some of which are dyes.
 (AQ) catalyzed chemithermomechanical pulping (CTMP) of aspen wood by using an interstage sulfonation process and compares the quality of pulp with that of black spruce thermomechanical pulp (TMP).

Previous studies confirmed that aspen is very suitable for CTMP because of availability, ease of processing and pulp quality. Work done so thr has shown that AQ can increase the delignification rate, reduce refiner energy, and improve the quality of pulp.

We determined preliminary process conditions in the laboratory and obtained a target yield and pH with 6% [Na.sub.2]S[O.sub.3], 2% NaOH, and 0.1% AQ. Pulping experiments were carried out in Paprican's pilot plant.

Tensile strength of AQ pulp is about 20 % higher than that of control. AQ pulp also developed higher tensile strength than those of control and consumed less energy to achieve it.

Conclusions

There is a strong indication that AQ can considerably improve the quality of aspen CTM CTM Continuum (gaming)

 pulp when interstage sulfonation is used, but it requires very coarse refining of chips in the first stage.

When aspen-AQ CTM pulps were compared with black spruce TMP, at equivalent freeness, it yeas observed that it required 15% less energy to produce aspen pulp than that of the TMP. After the evaluation of the strength properties of pulps prepared by mixing aspen-AQ CTMP, black spruce TMP, and DIP in different proportions, we concluded that up to 20% of spruce TMP could be replaced with the aspen-AQ CTMP in typical newsprint newsprint

low grade paper used for newspapers. Old newspapers are fed to cattle as an alternative roughage and may occasionally be ingested by dogs. Significant amounts of lead are accumulated in tissues; no cases of poisoning have been recorded in cattle, though it has been
 furnish without affecting the quality of pulp.
