Catalyst Semiconductor Buck LED Driver Named to EDN's Hot 100 Products of 2007.

CAT4201, 7W Buck LED Driver Named One of Nine Products in "Power Semiconductors and ICs" Category

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Catalyst Semiconductor, Inc. (NASDAQ NASDAQ

:CATS) a supplier of analog, mixed-signal and non-volatile memory semiconductors announced that its CAT4201, 7W buck LED driver has been named to the EDN Magazine's list of Hot 100 Products of 2007. The CAT4201 was selected one of nine hot products in the "Power Semiconductors and ICs" category, which includes leading analog semiconductor suppliers.

Designed for use in high-power household, commercial and automotive lighting products, the CAT4201 buck LED driver provides a significantly smaller and far more power-efficient "green" alternative to linear regulators, which, traditionally have been used to control high-brightness lighting applications.

"Catalyst is honored to have our CAT4201 7W buck LED driver selected by EDN as one of its 2007 Hot 100 Products," said Scott Brown, vice president of marketing for Catalyst Semiconductor. "EDN reviews hundreds of products every year and we are very pleased to have the first product in our new family of buck LED drivers to be chosen by their editors."

Products selected for the EDN annual Hot 100 Products list are chosen by its editors from the hundreds of newsworthy items that appear in the pages of EDN in print or online. Eligible products must have appeared in EDN magazine during the year.

EDN Editorial Director Maury Wright stated, "Our editorial team covers new product introductions on a daily basis and we see a lot of worthy products. We look back once a year and choose the introductions that we believe will have the greatest significance to the design engineer and create the Hot 100 list."

About the CAT4201 LED Driver

The first device in a new family of buck converters, the CAT4201 is optimized for driving high-brightness, 350mA LEDs at up to 94 percent efficiency. The device incorporates Catalyst's patent-pending switching control scheme, which reduces system complexity and improves efficiency by providing better inductor inductor, electric device consisting of one or more turns of wire and typically having two terminals. An inductor is usually connected into a circuit in order to raise the inductance to a desired value.  control and eliminating the need for a dedicated heat sink. Traditionally, LEDs from 12V or 24V buses have been driven by linear regulators, which generate a significant amount of heat, resulting in the need for a dedicated heat sink and, therefore, a very large TO263 package. The patented architecture and small package size (TSOT-23) of the CAT4201 offer a simpler and significantly smaller alternative to linear regulators in high-power LED lighting applications.
