SCOT Catriona Matthew Catriona Matthew (née Lambert) (born 25 August 1969) is a Scottish professional golfer who plays mainly on the U.S. based LPGA Tour and is also a member of the Ladies European Tour.  led the European challenge after the first round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico.

Matthew's four-under 68 in Guadalajara left her in a tie for fifth - just three behind South Korean Song-Hee Kim, who led on 65. Kim is one ahead of a group of three that included American Paula Creamer.

Women's British Open The Women's British Open, also known for sponsorship reasons since 2007 as the Ricoh Women's British Open, is a leading event in women's professional golf and the only tournament which is classified as a major by both the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour.  Champion Matthew had a flawless round with birdies at the fifth 10th, 14th and 18th.

England's Laura Davies, the only other British player in the elite 36-strong field, opened with a 76.
