Castle gates for sale -- but you need a grand enough drive.

A 16-YEAR labour of love -- to build replicas of the famous Chirk Castle wrought iron gates -- has been completed.

Now all Malcolm Griffiths needs is somewhere to hang his masterpiece.

It was in 1988 that the qualified sheet metal worker decided to make a copy of the gates, out of love and respect for his late blacksmith father, Edgar.

The originals were made in 1712 by Robert and John Davies, famous gate smiths of Wrexham, for Third Baronet baronet

British hereditary rank of honor, first created by James I in 1611 to raise money, ostensibly for support of troops in Ulster. The baronetage is not part of the peerage, nor is it an order of knighthood.

``About 12 months ago, I just thought they did not look complete and that I would like to make the set of pillars as well.

``My wife and daughter said I must be mad, but I set about it and now they are complete, '' said Malcolm, 55, of The Oval, Pentre Maelor, near Wrexham.

``The gates are about 20ft high and, with the pillars, 20ft wide. If someone was to make me a realistic offer, I would consider selling them. ''
