Castle Vale targeting double delight; MIDLAND COMBINATION.

CASTLE Vale kick off arguably the most important week in their history today when they bid for the first part of a possible cup promotion double.

They aim to make it "third time lucky" in the Midland Combination Challenge Cup final when they tackle Cadbury Athletic at Damson Park, home of Solihull Moors (3pm)..

And then they focus on trying to overhaul Premier Division leaders Loughborough University - who are eight points clear having played one more game - to try and become champions for the first time.

Gareth Palmer's side warmed up with a 2-0 win against Coton Green on Saturday, with Simeon Smith and Danny Tyman on target.

But the Vale boss will await fitness updates on Danny Carter, a recent signing from Coleshill

Town, and one-time Blues trainee Dave Arrowsmith before naming his side today.

Vale president Dennis Ellis said: "It's a massive week for the club.

"We've got the cup final first where we are hoping it's third time lucky after reaching the final twice and not winning it.

"Then it's the league. We've been runners-up twice and not been promoted so hopefully again it will be third time lucky..

"We play Loughborough on Wednesday and we have to win." After today's final, Castle Vale then play Loughborough on Wednesday at Vale Park before having a league rematch with Cadbury on Saturday and then ending the season against Bolehall Swifts.

Vale hope second spot - they are two points clear of Southam United who have played two games more - could also mean a ticket to the Aspire Midland Alliance..
