Castle Hill's pub history; Mailbag.


I AM finding it very hard to understand the council's decision regarding the hotel on Castle Hill.

As far as I am aware, 1812 saw the erection erection /erec·tion/ (e-rek´shun) the condition of being rigid and elevated, as erectile tissue when filled with blood.

 hotel (can't see many people walking up that hill with no alcohol available) and then rebuilt in 1852 with both dates preceding the tower by a great number of years.

Perhaps the fact that a business flourished there for 200 years means nothing but, historically, the pub has a right to be there and should be a focal point focal point

At the time the Thandi partnership acquired the building it was a 10 bedroom hotel, restaurant and bar which had been extended twice (and not too sympathetically) so perhaps a new hotel, built in stone would actually help to draw people to the area and return the hilltop to what it was.
