, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 23, 1996--Castle Energy Corp.(a) (NASDAQ/NNM:CECX) (the "Company") reported Monday Monday: see week.  that its earnings for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 1996 were $25,074,000 ($3.73 per share) versus earnings of $14,897,000 ($2.20 per share) for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 1995.

For the year ended Sept. 30, 1996, earnings from continuous operations consisted of $13,815,000 of pre-tax earnings and a tax benefit of $11,259,000. For the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 1995, earnings from continuous operations consisted of pre-tax earnings of $11,783,000 and a tax provision of $37,823,000. In fiscal 1995, there was also net income from discontinued dis·con·tin·ue
