Sender To Provide a One-Stop Document Faxing and Sending Solution

Castelle (NASDAQ:CSTL) today announced that its FaxPress server, a complete hardware and software network fax solution, is fully integrated with Hewlett-Packard Co.'s (NYSE:HWP) new HP 9100C Digital Sender.

The HP 9100C Digital Sender, which replaces the Network ScanJet 5 scanner, is a compact desktop sending device for black-and-white and color office documents. The tight integration of the two products effectively turns the 9100C Digital Sender into a 15-page-per-minute fax machine while using FaxPress as its back-end.

With both products, users can fax directly from the front panel of the digital sender, or scan a document, edit it back at your PC, and quickly fax it, maintaining a 300-dots-per-inch quality. FaxPress enables users to transmit faxes directly from their workstation -- eliminating the need to print a document and take it to a fax machine.

FaxPress also sorts incoming faxes and routes them confidentially to selected electronic mailboxes. The 9100C Digital Sender enables users to digitally send paper documents to any fax number, e-mail address, JetSend technology-enabled device, network printer or PC.

The 9100C Digital Sender attaches directly to TCP/IP Ethernet or token-ring LANs, which makes it easy to scan documents and images into files and share them with multiple network users. The digital sender lets users quickly scan documents and then distribute them to users through an intuitive typewriter-like keyboard control panel.

This combined product offering changes the usage model of how network users send paper faxes. The integration at a software and network level, along with the addition of a six-line display and alpha-numeric keypad, provides the following three faxing options: -0-

     1. Go to the scanner, enter a phone number, and "send" the fax;

     2. Go to the scanner, select a phone number from a predefined fax
     destination list, and "send" the fax;

     3. Scan a document, return to the desktop, and use the FaxPress
     user interface to send or attach the paper document to an
     electronic document for transmission.
