Castaic Lake in Los Angeles to Play Host to a Record Number of Teams Oct. 24 in the Last Leg of Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series.

LOS ANGELES--(BW SportsWire)--Oct. 9, 1998--In a sport that is taking the nation by storm, Los Angeles will play host to 300 teams in the Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series.

Ending its 1998 event series, adventure racing has proven itself as the newest and most popular sport of the new millennium. The Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series, which combines the three disciplines of mountain biking, kayaking and trail running, has quickly become the most anticipated one-day sprint in the country.

The defining factor for these races are the special tests, an aspect which not only provides competitors a way to test their physical skills, but challenges them mentally as well. With a course length of anywhere from 15 to 30 miles long -- and special tests along the way -- the race in Los Angeles will provide one additional new factor...ending the race after dark.

With a new moon rising over Castaic, so too, will one team rise to the top, as new competitors and past winners from the other eight events challenge one another in what is sure to be the best Hi-Tec race yet.

Two-time national champions and winners of the Sacramento event, Team Redsand (Los Angeles, 1996 and 1997), look forward to challenging Team Epinephrine, who are sure to give them a run for the money following their own wins at the Hi-Tec races in Dallas and Portland, Ore. However, both Team Redsand and Team Epinephrine had better watch their backs as team Eco Internet, winners of the Hi-Tec Race in New York and members of the winning team from the 1998 Raid Gauloises as well as the '96 & '97 ECO Challenges, ready themselves for this Hi-Tec Adventure race.

With no prior knowledge of what the special tests will entail, Los Angeles should prove to be the truest adventure yet, as these tests act as the greatest equalizer between the serious competitor and weekend warrior alike.

Continuing its incredible journey, the Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series is planning to add Atlanta and San Diego to its 11-city tour for next year's series. With this year's Los Angeles race airing on ESPN 2 on Nov. 28 at 8:30 a.m. PST, it will no doubt be the biggest and best race yet.
