Kayaking is differentiated from canoeing by the fact that a kayak has a closed cockpit and a canoe has an open cockpit. They also use a two bladed paddle. Another major difference is in the way the paddler sits in the boat. and trail running, has quickly become the most anticipated one-day sprint in the country. The defining factor for these races are the special tests, an aspect which not only provides competitors a way to test their physical skills, but challenges them mentally as well. With a course length of anywhere from 15 to 30 miles long -- and special tests along the way -- the race in Los Angeles will provide one additional new factor...ending the race after dark.
