A customized packaging line combines casting of three-layer polyester film in-line with coextrusion coating with polyethylene. Alter coating, the line also allows for inline lamination with a separate film substrate. SML Extrusion Technology in Austria (U.S. office in Kennesaw, Ga.) has built similar lines to produce cast film in-line with lamination to a nonwoven, but this is the first for in-line lamination to film. The line has two extruders for polyester film and two extruders for coating with EMA or EVA plus LDPE. It also has a new compression roller coated with a special "nano-surface" to prevent polymers from sticking to the rubber roll. it produces up to 2-meter-wide films at up to 150 m/min.
