Casino 2001: 1st Quadrennial of Contemporary Art.

VARIOUS VENUES

Quadrennial? Maybe it's time you added the word to your vocabulary, because Jan Hoet and his pals at the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst Gent already have--and they're serious about it. The first installment of this Dutch quadrennial of contemporary art, curated by New York gallerist Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, will include more than fifty international artists. Referencing the fact that the SMAK SMAK - Shore Mount Accessory Kit (USMC) building previously housed a casino, the show will emphasize the theatrical and extravagant sides of popular culture. Among the invited, most of whom came of age during the '70S, are Franz Ackermann, Emmanuelle Antille, Keith Edmier, Kendell Geers, Sarah Morris, and Paul Pfeiffer. Oct. 27-Jan. 13.
