THE takeover of a historic textiles company by a leading Chinese firm was yesterday hailed as a vote of confidence in the Scottish economy.

Todd & Duncan, a 142-year-old cashmere cashmere

Animal-hair fibre forming the downy undercoat of the Kashmir goat. The fibre became known for its use in beautiful shawls and other handmade items produced in Kashmir, India. The fibres have diameters finer than those of the best wools.
 spinning business, were sold by Dawson International to the Ningxia Zhongyin Cashmere Company earlier this year.

The pounds 6.1million deal secured around 200 jobs at the Kinross firm, who have manufactured cashmere yarn for fashion houses such as Tom Ford.

Yesterday, First Minister Alex Salmond Alexander Elliot Anderson Salmond, known as Alex Salmond (born December 31, 1954, Linlithgow), is a Scottish politician, and the current First Minister of Scotland, heading a minority government.  joined Ma Shengguo, the chairman of Ningxia Zhongyin, and Li Jianjun, of the municipal government of Lingwu, Ningxia, on a visit to the firm to mark the deal.

Salmond said: "Todd & Duncan have a proud history of producing luxury cashmere on the banks of Loch Leven Loch Leven (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Lìobhann) is a fresh water loch in Perth and Kinross, Scotland.

Roughly circular, the loch has a diameter of about 16 km. The burgh of Kinross lies at its western end. Loch Leven Castle lies on an island a short way offshore.
 for use in the world's top fashion houses.

"I am delighted the future of one of Scotland's leading textile manufacturers and 200 highly skilled employees has been secured."

He added the cashmere industry employed 4000 staff in Scotland, contributing almost pounds 200million to the country's economy.
