Silicon Valley's Movea Provides $200,000 Technology Donation, Challenges Other Tech Companies to Do the Same

GyroTransport in-air presentation devices, valued at $200,000, to over 160 cash-strapped Californian schools and colleges. Movea is the Silicon Valley-based creator of motion-sensing technology for business communications, home entertainment and mobile computing Using a computing device while in transit. Mobile computing implies wireless transmission, but wireless transmission does not necessarily imply mobile computing. Fixed wireless applications use satellites, radio systems and lasers to transmit between permanent objects such as buildings , including the concept for the Nintendo Wiimote.

Cognizant of California's deep budget cuts in government services, including $6 billion slashed from school spending, Movea decided to take the lead in directly helping students and teachers. By providing schools with technology that enhances classroom sessions, Movea's GyroTransports can make it easier for teachers to control projected lessons and presentations while moving about the classroom. Bay Area schools and colleges that have received Movea's technology donation are from the Alum Rock Union School District The Alum Rock Union School District operates nineteen elementary schools (K-5) and seven middle schools (6-8) in the greater San Jose, California, USA area.

"This is more than about being a good corporate citizen," said Bryan Hoadley, Executive VP and General Manager of Movea. "Local schools and students need to count on the full support of the community in these trying times. Movea implores its peers in Silicon Valley to follow our lead and devote what resources they can to give local educators services and technology that will help them deliver better learning to students."

The GyroTransport is a motion-sensing, pocket size, hand-held, wireless mouse that works in the air, so the user need not be tethered Attached to a data or power source by wire or fiber. A short wave of the device in a teacher's hand will activate a host of presentation tools and features that can highlight key messages and control multimedia, thus offering the user freedom of movement and help create a livelier teaching environment.

Jose L. Manzo, Superintendent of the Alum Rock Union Elementary School District, said, "The California State budget for K-12 education is losing more than $6 billion; in Alum Rock, the reduction in programs and services is equal to $16 million. Faced with such a daunting daunt
