COMMUNITY groups in Nuneaton are being urged to battle drug use by applying for grants.

Money for drug-related projects is available through the local crime and disorder reduction partnership (CDRP CDRP Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships
CDRP Cancer Disparities Research Partnership
CDRP Center for Disaster Risk Policy (Florida State University)
CDRP Catastrophic Disaster Response Plan
) for community safety schemes.

Community groups in Nuneaton can ask for up to pounds 1,000 from a pounds 9,000 Building Safer Communities fund.

One recent event declared a success was a crime and safety awareness day at Nuneaton's George Eliot School in Raveloe Drive.

A day's activities showed the consequences of crime to 160 year-nine pupils. Workshops covered drugs, joyriding, life in prison, safety and drug dogs.

Cllr Dot Webster, chairman of the Nuneaton and Bedworth Nuneaton and Bedworth (nənē`tən), district (1991 pop. 115,300), Warwickshire, central England. The district primarily comprises the city of Nuneaton and the town of Bedworth. The district's growth was based on coal mining.  Safer Communities Partnership, said: "Education, enforcement of drugs legislation and diversionary activities all tackle the problem of drugs use, and the crime that it brings, from different angles.

"We know that the best way to tackle the influence of drugs in our communities has to be multi-faceted.

"That is why the partnership incorporates so many diverse areas of expertise, not only in crime detection and prevention but also in providing activities that improve quality of life and make communities more resistant to drugs."
