Cash is stashed under the bed.

AN increasing number of people are stashing their savings underneath beds because they do not trust bankers, new research revealed today.

Home insurance firm More Than said two-thirds of adults no longer have faith in the British banking system to look after their money.

A survey of 2,000 adults showed that one in 10 admitted they have started to hide money underneath mattresses since the onset of the banking crisis.

More Than spokesman Pete Markey said: "As a result of the well-reported banking problems and low interest rates, it is increasingly tempting for savers to look for unconventional methods of keeping their nest egg secure.

"Keeping cash under the bed might make savers feel better in the short term, but risks leaving them high and dry should the unthinkable happen."
