Case launches cotton picker with on-board module builder. With a 53-year history of mechanized mech·a·nize tr.v. mech·a·nized, mech·a·niz·ing, mech·a·niz·es 1. To equip with machinery: mechanize a factory. 2. cotton pickers The mechanical cotton picker is a machine that automates cotton harvesting. It was first invented in the 1920s, but was not made practical until the 1950s, and even then, it was not immediately implemented on most farms. behind it, the Case IH Module Express 625 is the first commercial cotton picker that can build modules as it harvests the crop. Eliminating the need for separate boll buggy Refers to software that contains many flaws. Many in the software industry swear that bugs are inevitable, and perhaps they are right. As long as we work in the competitive, pressure-cooker environment of our high-tech world, products will more often than not be developed too hastily and and module builder, this one-man, one machine for both cotton harvest and module building reduces equipment and labor investment. It picks cotton at the same pace as a traditional six-row picker and unloads a 10,000 pound module faster than the same amount can be emptied from a traditional basket. Designed in collaboration with growers and ginners, the ME 626 was built to maximize gin-feeding rates without adding any contamination. The modules are sized 8'x8'x16', the same height and width and half the length of a standard module, so no changes are required in the handling and ginning systems. The unit's Automatic Intelligent Auger auger (ô`gər): see drill. auger Tool (or bit) used with a carpenter's brace for drilling holes, usually in wood. It looks like a corkscrew and produces extremely clean holes, almost regardless of how large the bit is. Packing System, a patented, first-in-the-industry system of sensors and augers, automatically moves the cotton along as the module is compressed. The resulting domed modules have excellent weatherability and consistency for ginning. Monitors track the percentage full, weight and bales per acre, identifying drop-off points around the field that are accessible to the gin's module trucks. This enables the operators to stage modules for efficient loading. Power for the ME 625 comes from an upsized version of the Cotton Express 620 picker. The new 9.0-liter engine has 365 horsepower and can be fueled with a B5 biodiesel blend. The ME 625's weight and floatation are balanced, with a longer chassis and 500/95-32 duals in the front and 23.5-26 tires in the rear providing a larger footprint than the Cotton Express 620. For moving from field to field, converting the ME 625 to and from transport mode takes less than 10 minutes. |
