Casa Unveils New Cable Edge Platform at IBC; Wideband DOCSIS CMTS Delivers unprecedented bandwidth flexibility.

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands -- This week at IBC IBC International Building Code
IBC Iraq Body Count
IBC Institutional Biosafety Committee
IBC Inflammatory Breast Cancer
IBC International Business Company
IBC Independence Blue Cross
IBC Insurance Bureau of Canada
IBC International Broadcasting Convention
, Casa Systems, Inc. will introduce the latest addition to the Casa C2000 product series, the Casa C2200 Cable Modem Termination System A cable modem termination system or CMTS is equipment typically found in a cable company's headend, or at cable company hubsite and is used to provide high speed data services, such as cable internet or Voice over IP, to cable subscribers.  (CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) A computerized device that enables cable modems to send and receive packets over the Internet. It inserts IP packets from the Internet into MPEG frames and transmits them to the cable modems via an RF signal. ). The C2200 is the industry's most compact, cost effective CMTS device for delivering bandwidth-intensive broadband services today, and integrated service offerings (data, voice, video) tomorrow.

The wideband DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) A cable modem standard from the CableLabs research consortium (www.cablelabs.com), which provides equipment certification for interoperability.  optimized Casa C2200 architecture offers cable operators unprecedented bandwidth flexibility with independent CMTS downstream modules and upstream modules. Capable of supporting channel bonding up to 16 downstream channels and up to eight upstream channels, the C2200 provides the industry's highest peak bandwidth per user and highest density of both downstream and upstream channels in a 1RU form factor. With the standards-based DOCSIS 3.0 implementation, the C2200 has interoperated with a range of cable modems that support channel bonding. At IBC, Casa will showcase channel bonding capability with total throughput of over 100Mbps in conjunction with NETGEAR's channel bonding cable modem (model CM232).

Casa will also debut its C2150 Downstream Digital Cable Termination System, a multi-purpose cost effective "edge-QAM" platform that allows cable operators to deliver both video-over-IP services and MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs).  video services simultaneously. Designed to meet the multichannel DOCSIS RF interface specification (DOCSIS DRFI), it offers the best RF performance and most cost competitive advantage in the industry today. By supporting dynamic bandwidth resource allocation and multicasting according to user demand, C2150 is also an ideal platform for switched digital video See switched video. .

Founded by broadband network veteran Jerry Guo, Casa Systems is transforming the economics of provisioning bandwidth to deliver cost effective new digital television and data services. Unlike any predecessor on the market, Casa's C2000 product series of network edge devices significantly increases the capacity and lowers the per-stream and per-channel cost of video-on-demand (VOD See video-on-demand.

), ad insertion, broadcast channel management, and broadband data services.

"Our C2000 platform has a highly flexible, future-proof architecture that radically reduces the cost of running a wide range of broadband video and data services," said Jerry Guo, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Casa Systems. "With the extremely high peak bandwidth capability provided by the C2200 CMTS today, cable operators can be assured that they will have the tools to compete with Fiber-to-the-Home in the future without the need for a forklift upgrade at the headend. Furthermore, they can change the downstream to upstream ratio according to bandwidth usage patterns by reconfiguring the CMTS."

The C2200 allows cable operators to provision high-bandwidth IP services like interactive gaming and video-over-IP, while integrated MPEG video processing provides flexible support for digital television, video-on-demand and interactive services in a single platform. The C2200 is slated to ship in early 2007.

The C2200 Cable Modem Terminations System's key functions include:

--Channel bonding, maximizing bandwidth for cable operators with DOCSIS 3.0 standards-based implementation to support a multi-vendor environment

--Flexible downstream/upstream ratio, providing up to 48 downstream channels or 24 upstream channels per 1RU chassis. Customers can choose the upstream and downstream ratio independently based on the application bandwidth requirements

--Integrated CMTS & Video QAM (1) (Quality Assessment Measurement) A system used to measure and analyze voice transmission.

(2) (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) A modulation technique that employs both phase modulation (PM) and amplitude modulation (AM).
 - DOCSIS traffic and MPEG/DVB video traffic can be carried over the same platform

IBC Conference & Expo debut

Available now, Casa will showcase the C2150 Digital Downstream Cable Termination System. It provides cable operators with a cost-effective, future-proof network edge device. This platform is compatible with modular CMTS edge-QAM, and DOCSIS multichannel RF specifications. Integrated with MPEG video processing capability, the C2150 provides cable operators with the flexibility to offer switched digital video, VOD, nPVR, and interactive television services on the same platform.

The C2150 Downstream Digital Cable Termination System's key functions include:

--Cost effective hybrid QAM, MPEG video traffic and DOCSIS IP traffic can share the same RF channel

--Exceptional Performance - Designed to meet the DOCSIS DRFI performance specification for multi-channel QAMs

--Integrated MPEG processing, provides video grooming, PID (1) (Process IDentifier) A temporary number assigned by the operating system to a process or service.
