Casa Lamm.Probably the most beautiful restaurant we have visited so far this year, the newly remodeled Casa Lamm is certainly a current "in" spot for the fashion-conscious crowd looking for Looking for In the context of general equities, this describing a buy interest in which a dealer is asked to offer stock, often involving a capital commitment. Upon entering, we were directed through a shiny, wood-paneled bookstore, where we walked up glass stairs and out the back door to the dining area. The large and stunning open-air patio was stylishly constructed--the black fountain was imaginative--and the green lawn highlighted a refreshing lunchtime atmosphere that's great for a sunny day. Too bad we didn't get to sit there, though, since the rude hostess unsympathetically claimed she couldn't accommodate us because we didn't have a reservation despite an abundance of empty tables. Instead of making a kind attempt to find us a spot outdoors, she pointed us into the restaurant's small, makeshift interior where we had to seat ourselves. As always, the meal took off with several appetizers, which on this day were spinach salad with goat cheese, cuitlacoche cuit·la·co·che also huit·la·co·che n. [French, from German dialectal Küche, diminutive of German Kuchen, cake and an order of three ceviches (octopus, fish and shrimp). The salad was crisp and fresh and the quiche--which was filled with mushrooms--was quite savory. Unfortunately, however, finishing the tasteless, ketchup-laden ceviches turned out to be an insurmountable challenge, which led to disagreement over whether they were even ceviche ce·vi·che or se·vi·che n. Luckily, though, the "ceviche" was only an exception to what ocherwise turned out to be a wonderful meal. After finishing our appetizers, we ordered four main platters, including chile relleno The chile relleno, literally "stuffed pepper", is a dish of Mexican cuisine, consisting of a roasted fresh green Anaheim or poblano chili pepper stuffed with a melting cheese, such as queso Chihuahua or queso Oaxaca (traditionally), and/or picadillo meat made up of diced pork, de mariscos, esmedregal al agave y limon con portabellos, ravioli de jaiba and the Filete Lamm. Of course, we were only able to order after searching for our mysterious waiter, who pulled several disappearing acts. The chile relleno was the typical poblano po·bla·no n. Casa Lamm also seems to do a good job with its red meat dishes as the Filete Lamm--a mignon-style fillet--got compliments from the discerning carnivore carnivore (kär`nəvôr'), term commonly applied to any animal whose diet consists wholly or largely of animal matter. During this outing we didn't have dessert but after a meal so deliciously filling, who needed it? Our primary complaint about Casa Lamm was a disappointing level of service that hardly meets the expectations one would have of a charmingly unique restaurant located in the heart of one of the capital's most historic neighborhoods. Next time I go back, I'll be sure to tell the hostess how elegant the outdoor dining area looked through the glass. --Armando Saliba |
