ONE of the likely candidates to replace Rhodri Morgan Hywel Rhodri Morgan, PC AM (born 29 September 1939) is a Welsh politician; the Labour National Assembly for Wales Member for the constituency of Cardiff West; and the first and current First Minister for Wales (and the second First Secretary for Wales) .  as leader in Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff.  says it is time to "move beyond New Labour".

Carwyn Jones Carwyn Jones AM, (born 21 March 1967), is the Labour Assembly Member for Bridgend. In the coalition government of Labour and Plaid Cymru, was appointed Counsel General for Wales and Leader of the House on July 19. , leader of the house in the Assembly, said the party must take immediate steps to respond to last week's disastrous European election results.

Labour finished overall second to the Conservatives in Wales and failed to top the poll anywhere outside Glamorgan and Gwent.

Now the party in Wales needed to "look fundamentally at its message, its policies and its ideas", Mr Jones said.

The Bridgend AM warned that to win back support in North East Wales East Wales is the easternmost part of Wales. The area is loosely-defined, but generally is said to include the traditional counties of Monmouthshire (including the city of Newport), Brecknockshire, Radnorshire, Montgomeryshire (i.e. much of Powys), Flintshire and Denbighshire.  it must be clear that cross-border services in England could continue to be accessed by people from the North in Chester, Liverpool and Manchester.

"There is no point insisting that people should travel long distances simply so they can receive a service in Wales," Mr Jones told Labour members in Mold last night.

"It was never intended that devolution would mean building a wall along the border," he said.

"We must start talking again about policies and ideas; those things that brought us into the party in the first place.

"The New Labour brand is 15 years old now.

"Our task now is to move beyond New Labour and build Welsh Labour 2011 for the next Assembly elections."

The party in Wales had to start listening to its members and give them more of a say, and not take its voters for granted.

"In the European elections we lost everywhere outside of the Valleys and some of the southern coastal seats.

"It is a real wake-up call.

"But we must ensure that this situation is temporary."
