Staff and directors at the hospice held a reception for the carvers who created the panel. All 74 carvers are members of West Riding Woodcarvers' Association. The 9ft by 3ft 6in carving depicts scenes from life in Calderdale, including pictures of the M62, rugby league, canal boats, rush-bearing at Sowerby Bridge, Brighouse Industrial Society, Halifax's Victoria Theatre, the town's railway station, Wainhouse Tower Wainhouse Tower is a folly in the town of Halifax, West Yorkshire. It is 275 feet tall and took four years to erect, 1871-1875. The tower was first designed by architect Isaac Booth. John Edward Wainhouse (1817-1883) owned the Washer Lane Dye Works. and Shibden Hall Shibden Hall is a historic hall in Halifax, West Yorkshire dating back to around 1420, when it was recorded as being inhabited by one William Oates. For three hundred years it was in the hands of the Lister family (c. 1615-1826). . The carving has been on display at Halifax Town Hall. Booklets produced to complement the panel were on sale during its town hall display. The sales have raised pounds 1,000 for the hospice. The carving is the fourth of its kind that the group has made. Similar pieces have been created for Kirkwood Hospice Kirkwood Hospice is a hospice situated in the English town of Huddersfield, providing care for the terminally ill.
