 Sanders were united in marriage at six in the evening on January 20, 2001, at North Wood United Methodist Church United Methodist Church, in the United States, religious body formed by the union in 1968 of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church (see Methodism). , Florence, Alabama. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Mr. Norman Hargett of Florence, Alabama, and Dr. John Armistead of Tupelo.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Carroll Carter of Florence, Alabama. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Edward Arrel Stone and the late Mr. Stone, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Grady Carter, all of Florence, Alabama.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. John Rutledge Sanders of Tupelo. He is the grandson of Mrs. Benjamin Franklin Ross of Columbus, and the late Mr. Ross, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Curren Johnston Sanders, Sr.

Groomsmen were Michael Edward Todd Carter, of Huntsville, Alabama; John Rutledge Sanders, Jr., Michael Brandon Edwards, and James Tillman Ewing, all of Tupelo; Dr. Joseph Wayne Hanson, of Birmingham, Alabama; Donnie Paul Cooper, of Florence, Alabama; Bishop Andrew Sanders of Greenwood; and Kendred Wade Sanders, of Carrollton. Hayden Brock Carter was ring bearer.

Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at Coby Hall on the campus of the University of North Alabama UNA in nonfiction
