Ray was born in Fort Valley, Georgia, and graduated from Crawford County High School in Roberta, Georgia, in 1944. and Sara Evans, Jeannie and Henry Trudelle, Denise Cooley, Steven Cooley; two uncles and two aunts, Daniel and Mary Ray, Michael Cooley and Patricia Cooley.
