Roy and Wanda Taylor of Dandridge, Tennessee, are a retired couple who used to operate a convenience store. Owing to health problems, Wanda is on oxygen. On November 13 at about 1 p.m., a man and a woman wearing masks barged into their home to rob the place. One of the intruders slugged Wanda in the head with a pistol. Roy was shot in the shoulder.

As the intruders sought to make their getaway, Roy got a gun and fired at the intruders, likely striking the female. According to the Citizen Tribune, Roy "saw her fall outside the home." Police who responded to the scene found blood in the driveway and an abandoned mask. The police also quickly located the white truck that was used as the getaway vehicle, left in the parking lot of a local grocery store. There was blood on the passenger side of the vehicle. The truck had been stolen earlier in the day from a restaurant. Police conjecture that the intruders either had another vehicle waiting for them at that location, or they hijacked a vehicle.

The Taylors did not recognize the intruders, but police speculate that the Taylors were specifically targeted. The intruders, who were described as younger than 30, are still at large, but police feel confident that leads they are investigating will pan out.
