The movie cafe was the brainchild of Hartlepool businessman Adam Bouabda. The 28-year-old who lives in the town and also runs the Casa del Mar tapas restaurant on the Marina, told how he came up with the idea. "The first time I ever saw anything similar to this was about 10 years ago," he said. "The Cornerhouse in Middlesbrough had stand-up comedy on with drinks and finger food and I wondered if there was anywhere that offered films in a restaurant setting. "I did some research and could find nowhere like it in the North-east. "There were cinema bars but nothing I could find which incorporated food." The movie cafe on Church Square features two 120 inch screens, a 106 inch screen and a plasma set behind the bar. Customers can enjoy a daytime meal while watching big screen entertainment such as Friends or Only Fools and Horses Only Fools and Horses is a British television sitcom, created and written by John Sullivan, and made and broadcast by the BBC. Seven series were originally broadcast in the UK between 1981 and 1991, with sporadic Christmas specials until 2003. and there are child-friendly films on during happy hour. The cinema restaurant will offer full waiter service and there will also be weekend matinees. Adam said: "It's been described as a restaurant that shows films but also a cinema that serves food. "Whatever it is, Flix is a place where diners will able to revisit their favourite films, have a bite to eat and enjoy a drink with family and friends. "It's been open a couple of weeks now and it's going really well.
