 Liam Carroll last night won a brief reprieve in the fight to save his property empire.

Mr Carroll made a fresh application to the High Court for protection, arguing that new property valuations make a rescue attempt valid.

Mr Justice Eamon De Valera last night decided he would allow the application to be made next week.

Senior Counsel Michael Cush also told the court that Mr Carroll was in hospital and in no "position to give instructions".

On Wednesday the High Court appointed a receiver to wind up two of Mr Carroll's firms.
