Carrier Corporation introduces new high-performance air conditioner at Alliance for Energy Efficiency conference.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 1996-- Homeowners have a new high-performance cooling option from Carrier Corporation.

Introduced today at Carrier's Alliance for Energy Efficiency VI conference, the WeatherMaker(TM) 38TXA TXA Transfer X Into Accumulator (6502 processor instruction)

is the company's highest-efficiency single-speed residential air conditioner, providing a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio The efficiency of air conditioners are often rated by theSeasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). The higher the SEER rating of a unit, the more energy efficient it is. The SEER rating is the Btu of cooling output during a typical cooling-season divided by the total electric energy  (SEER) of 13.0. The new model is one of the quietest and most compact available. It also uses a new chlorine-free refrigerant re·frig·er·ant

Rick DeMarco, Carrier's vice president of residential marketing. "They also want low sound levels. The WeatherMaker 38TXA provides both benefits."

The WeatherMaker's high efficiency helps homeowners reduce their cooling costs by between 40 and 60 percent. In addition, its high efficiency rating qualifies it for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Residential Program, which promotes the development and marketing of energy-efficient products that reduce energy consumption and pollution.

The WeatherMaker's low sound levels appeal to both homeowners and their neighbors. An air conditioner's sound intensity is measured in decibels. The WeatherMaker's sound output, as low as 71 decibels, puts their air conditioner's outdoor unit in a category with today's quietest in-home appliances, such as refrigerators, which average 70 decibels, and clothes washers and dryers, which average 74 decibels. By comparison, similar air conditioners average a sound rating of 80 decibels.

Carrier has identified air conditioner size as another attribute important to homeowners. The new refrigerant, R-410a, has enabled Carrier to make the new air conditioner as much as 27 percent smaller than comparable units.

"Consumers also say they want an air conditioner that doesn't harm the environment yet still provides efficiency, easy serviceability and reliability. By using R-410a, Carrier offers homeowners a high-performance cooling choice which is both environmentally sound and affordable. R-410a complies with residential refrigerant phase-out legislation well ahead of the 2010 deadline, so it also ensures homeowners system longevity by eliminating concerns about replacement," DeMarco explained.

Because it features a chlorine-free refrigerant which does not impair the earth's protective ozone layer ozone layer or ozonosphere, region of the stratosphere containing relatively high concentrations of ozone, located at altitudes of 12–30 mi (19–48 km) above the earth's surface. , the WeatherMaker is the first residential air conditioner to be approved by Green Seal, a national, non-profit environmental labeling organization.

The WeatherMaker will be available in six capacities ranging from two to five tons to accommodate the custom cooling needs of homes of various sizes. It is backed by a 10-year limited warranty Limited warranty

on the compressor and a one-year limited warranty on parts.

The Alliance for Energy Efficiency conference is an annual media event sponsored by Carrier to bring together noted environmentalists, scientists, government representatives, builders, architects and HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) In the home or small office with a handful of computers, HVAC is more for human comfort than the machines. In large datacenters, a humidity-free room with a steady, cool temperature is essential for the trouble-free  contractors to discuss challenges and solutions as they relate to creating a balance between energy efficiency, environmental considerations and indoor comfort.
