Carrier Corporation's New AquaSnap Chiller Takes an Innovative Concept to a Higher Level.

FARMINGTON, Conn. -- Carrier Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), today announced a new range of air-cooled chillers, which build on a highly successful and innovative concept.

With the original AquaSnap launched in 1999, Carrier created a whole new category of "packaged chillers." Now the company expands this concept into the largest segment of the air-cooled chiller market, 240-1,400 kW (70-400 tons). The larger range allows Carrier to offer the product to a greater number of potential customers. While the new chiller introduces new features and options to the expanded range, what worked best with the original design, continues to be at the heart of the new AquaSnap.

A Simple Concept

The AquaSnap design offers an optional, integrated "hydronic kit," which includes a chilled water pump and associated piping and controls, as part of the chiller package. Its modular design eliminates the need for additional plant floor space usually required for the hydronic components. The possible savings are considerable - on larger jobs customer can save up to 80 hours in installation time, which translates to thousands of dollars.

Environmental and Energy Efficiency

"With the introduction of this new AquaSnap chiller, Carrier further reinforces its position as the world leader in environmentally responsible commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions," said Jeff Williard, Carrier's Vice President for Product Strategy. With its high efficiency design, AquaSnap's components work optimally to take advantage of Puron's thermodynamic properties. The thermodynamic properties transfer heat more effectively than any other commonly used refrigerant.

In addition, the new AquaSnap achieves world-class performance in noise and is one of the quietest chillers in its category. Its patented low noise fans offer enhanced acoustics performance. This translates into even more benefits - quiet operation with no intrusive low-frequency noise.

Finally, the new AquaSnap achieves higher efficiencies as its design optimizes the interface between the compressor and the other chiller components. Chillers can consume more than 50 percent of a building's energy. With AquaSnap, customers can delight in the ensuing lower electricity bill each month.
