Carrier Applauds Selection of New York's Gov. Pataki for Green Building Leadership Award.

Carrier Corporation today commended the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC USGBC United States Green Building Council ) for naming New York New York, state, United States

 State Gov. George Pataki George Elmer Pataki (born June 24, 1945) is an American politician who was the 57th Governor of New York serving from January 1995 until January 1, 2007. He is a member of the Republican Party and was seen as a possible 2000 and 2008 Presidential candidate.  the first recipient of its Green Building Leadership Award.

The award was presented on Nov. 14 at the USGBC's International Green Building Conference and Exposition, in Austin, Texas, attended by nearly 4,000 people.

The Green Building Leadership Award was established by the USGBC to recognize a body of government or non-profit organization A non-profit organization (abbreviated "NPO", also "non-profit" or "not-for-profit") is a legally constituted organization whose primary objective is to support or to actively engage in activities of public or private interest without any commercial or monetary profit purposes. , or an individual working for such organization, for significant contribution to advancing and causing the transformation of green building in the public sector. Important qualifications for this award include development of initiatives and programs that have contributed to changes in standard regulatory policies, codes and standards, tax and other incentives; project development requirements and other organizational priorities; as well as policies that further the adoption of the USGBC LEED(TM) standards for green building.

"Carrier Corporation was proud to nominate him for the U.S. Green Building Council's inaugural leadership award because through both practice and policy, he has positioned New York State at the forefront of environmental leadership."

The U.S. Green Building Council is a consensus-based coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Carrier is a founding member of the USGBC. With nearly 3,000 employees at its Syracuse, N.Y. operations, the company has worked closely with Gov. Pataki on a number of green building and environmental initiatives.

In support of the USGBC's efforts, and following the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's guidelines for greening events and conferences, Carrier Corporation made a contribution to the nonprofit Leonardo Academy's Cleaner and Greener(sm) Program toward emissions reductions to offset any air pollution caused by energy use associated with Carrier's participation in this event.
