(TM) application server. As a result, service providers will be able to easily deliver enhanced voice over IP (VoIP) services and applications to business and government users. The combined solution leverages existing business investments such as telephones, key systems, and PBXs to deliver new service capabilities with VoIP at the lowest installed customer cost.

The recently completed interoperability tests provide a solution composed of a carrier-grade VoIP customer gateway using the Carrier Access Adit 600 platform and the high performance, standards-based VOISS application server from VocalData. Service providers have shown substantial interest in two access methods: the conversion of analog telephone lines to IP and converged voice and data delivery over T1 facilities. These access methods deliver new user communication values from VoIP, while eliminating the need for significant new equipment or installation expenses.

"VocalData's comprehensive suite of integrated applications, combined with the Adit 600 CMG's unique mix-and-converge migration approach creates IP voice solutions for mainstream deployments," said Mark Nixon, VP of marketing at Carrier Access. "The Adit 600's modular, scalable, design and the unique partitioning capabilities of the VOISS platform enables service providers to deploy customized service environments for businesses from eight to thousands of users."

The Adit 600 defines a new class of IP gateway that combines multi-network access and multi-service delivery into one platform. With the Customer Media Gateway (CMG) Service Card, a service provider can offer carrier quality converged IP voice and data services today, or implement a cost-effective migration strategy from TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission.  to IP services. VOISS is standards-based for easy integration into a multi-vendor environment, using the widest range in protocols, including SIP, MGCP See MGCP/MEGACO.

, and SCCP (Signaling Connection Control Point) A layer 3 protocol in an SS7 network that routes a message to the appropriate database. SCCP is used in conjunction with the TCAP protocol for sending queries to databases. See SS7 and TCAP. See also SSCP. . Both the Adit 600 and the VOISS application server support major industry softswitches.

The carrier-grade Adit 600 CMG is a bladed solution that delivers exceptional reliability using a fuseless and fanless design with an integrated battery charger. The platform can mix TDM, IP, and other data services over one to sixteen T1 or E1 access connections.

The VocalData VOISS application platform supports a variety of IP voice solutions including hosted PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN). , VoIP VPN Secure Voice Encryption
A VoIP VPN combines Voice over IP and Virtual Private Network technologies to offer a method for delivering secure voice. Because VoIP transmits digitized voice as a stream of data, the VoIP VPN solution accomplishes voice encryption quite simply,
, business trunking, IP Centrex and residential services.

"VocalData is committed to providing a wide variety of IP and phone support options for its service provider customers, in order to give business customers the broadest possible selection of features and price points," said Mark Whittier, vice president of corporate marketing at VocalData. "As a result of this strategy, we've tested a wide variety of products, and are quite impressed with the quality and reliable access that the Adit 600 provides."
