BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 2003

Robust ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  Modeling Tool Makes Cell Site, Fixed Microwave Shot,

), a manufacturer of broadband communications equipment, today announced that it will give attendees at the CTIA Wireless 2003 Show an easy and quantifiable way for wireless carriers to calculate and document savings in a variety of cell site operations.

The company's booth (#5465, Hall F) will feature a recently created business-case modeling tool developed in conjunction with industry-leading analyst, TeleChoice. The tool organizes and quantifies costs based on network topology See topology. , capital costs, operational costs, downtime, and other factors. Initially, it is loaded with industry cost averages, but easily allows carriers to input their own data for improved analysis accuracy.

The modeling tool was created to help demonstrate back-haul and capex savings associated with Carrier Access' Axxius 800 Access Integration Platform, which was developed for the wireless industry and released at last year's CTIA show. In the last year, the Axxius has been deployed at three of the five Tier I carriers, as well as several Tier II and III providers. In these deployments, up to 45 percent savings in backhaul costs has been reported, along with up to 78 percent savings in capital costs compared to traditional DCS (1) See also DSC.

 alternatives.

"Competitive forces have made all wireless service providers very sensitive to reducing capital expenditures and operational costs," said Mark Nixon, VP of Marketing at Carrier Access. "Our Axxius platform has proven its ability to deliver those savings and by working with TeleChoice, we've created a sophisticated modeling tool that easily demonstrates those savings. Whether carriers are interested in saving money in wireless DS3 backhaul, distributing bandwidth from fixed microwave backbones, or overlaying E911 at mobile switching centers, the modeling tool quickly documents the impact of Carrier Access' multi-faceted solution."

The following platforms are modeled in the TeleChoice tool and will be highlighted at the Carrier Access booth:

Axxius(TM) 800 Access Integration Platform--Offers affordable back-haul and cell site termination, while enabling a true migration path to 2.5G and 3G services. It cross-connects all of the T1 circuits at the cell site so that previously stranded or unused bandwidth can be utilized for generating additional revenues. This newly found bandwidth can be used to connect more radios with fewer circuits--improving profit margins and maximizing ROI.

Hardened and configured with the DS3 and T1 Cards, the Axxius 800 is a flexible 3/1/0 grooming solution that can strip E911 traffic out of the MSC (1) (MSC.Software Corporation, Santa Ana, CA, www.mscsoftware.com) Founded in 1963 by Richard H. MacNeal and Robert G. Schwendler, MSC is the world's largest provider of mechanical computer aided engineering (MCAE) strategies, simulation software and services.  DS3 links at the DS0 level before reaching the 3/1 DCS. As a result, an absolute minimum number of DS3 DCS and E911 T1 ports are used. The Axxius 800 will be displayed at the following booths: Carrier Access (#5465, Hall F), Walker and Associates (Booth: 829) and Somera Communications (Nasdaq:SMRA SMRA Stone & McCarthy Research Associates , Booth: 5351).

Adit adit (ăd`ĭt), in mining, underground passage excavated nearly horizontally, with one end open to the earth's surface, usually used to service a mine. The adit end is the furthermost end from the surface, i.e., the location where miners work. (R) 600 Multi-service Delivery Terminal Platform--By extending DCS capabilities to multi-T1 (or E1) cell sites, the Adit 600 captures idle DS0s and recovers previously stranded bandwidth to provide expanded radio capacity without new circuit provisioning. In addition, the extremely cost-effective solution can reduce capex by up to 82 percent and space requirements by up to 90 percent. The Adit 600 will be displayed at the following booths: Carrier Access (#5465, Hall F), Walker and Associates (Booth: 829), and Somera Communications (Nasdaq:SMRA, Booth: 5351).
