Carrier Access Corp. announces FXO DPT capabilities for Access Bank family of T1 access solutions.

BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 1996--Carrier Access Corp. (CAC), a leading manufacturer of network access solutions for the telecommunications and data communications industries, announced today the availability of a Foreign Exchange Office (FXO FXO - Foreign Exchange Office) and Dial Pulse Termination (DPT) integrated circuit card Same as printed circuit board. for the Access Bank(tm) family of T1 Multiplexers.

Available as a 12-channel card, the FXO/DPT converts analog telephone transmissions into digital T1 transmissions. This permits off-premise extensions (OPX OPX - Off-Premise Extension
OPX - Off-Premises Exchange
OPX - Open Philanthropy Exchange
OpX - Operations Excellence
) and enables users to terminate Direct Inward Dial (DID) circuits into their PBX or key systems.

The FXO card provides both Loop and Ground Start A method for seizing a phone line. Widely used by PBXs, the ring lead of the line (tip and ring) is momentarily connected to ground, and the CO detects the current. The CO grounds the tip lead of dedicated lines, which the PBX can test to determine if the line is dedicated for use. Contrast with loop start. operation for customers wanting to extend local 2-way dial tone lines to a remote PBX. FXO is frequently used as a tie line between a branch office and the headquarters, permitting users to directly access the headquarters' advanced PBX features such as hunt groups, call transfer, and conferencing.

Ken Garrett, vice president of marketing at Carrier Access, said that the FXO card provides the best solution for cost-effective, simplified remote office connectivity. "Our customers have impressed upon us the need for remote office connectivity to keep pace with their growing voice communications requirements. Through its Dial Pulse Terminating feature, this new card provides Direct Inward Dial connections to a PBX from an originating PBX or central office. This permits individual direct dialed extensions without having to require separate lines for each extension."
